2010 Old News

Happy New Year!!!!

What a year 2010 was for us at A Pinch of Luck!

In March, we took over full management of the farm at 747 Arnold Mill Road.  With this change, we were able to expand our Thoroughbred program from our prior "record" of ninteen placements in 2009 to forty seven placements in 2010.  We have another six horses still on the farm in and line to be our first placements of 2011.  With their inclusion, we are so proud to say that we have helped fifty three horses move on from race to sport in the last year!

The girls here at A Pinch of Luck have been the most important assistants in helping get the horses ready for their new homes:  grooming, hand walking, posing for pictures, riding, and just plain old spending time being peaceful with them...  April, Rachael, Ashley, Bethany, Maddie, Maufi, Katie, Tammy, Faye, Ridley, and Bree--We couldn't do it without you!!!  Thank you so very, very much!!!!

Our dear friends Stacy and Ron wrapped up a successful season at Fingerlakes in mid-December.  They have a busy winter ahead with several two year olds who will begin their training to become race horses.  In addition to the youngsters, their crowded barn holds several broodmares and yearlings, and of course, the horses who ran in 2010 and will be returning to the track this spring.  We're looking forward to following their progress this year!

Our relationship with Fingerlakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program stays strong, and we are ever grateful for our friendships with this wonderful crew:  Julie, Dimaris, Wezo, Randy,...  From these friendships we have been fortunate to meet and establish relationships with several trainers at Fingerlakes, as well.  Many of our graduates have come from trainers we were fortunate to meet through FLTAP, and we're looking forward to providing a great retirement to their runners for many seasons to come!

In addition to our fantastic race track friends, huge thanks is due our wonderful friend Athen Haresign of The Horse Jitney.  Without The Goddess, we would have had no horses to share!  Her "personality reports" have been instrumental in helping us get our kids acclimated to life after the track.  From the road, we get full reports several times a day about who does what, likes what, or needs what, and wow, how helpful it is to have that insight to work with when dealing with new horses!

We also must give a special thanks to some new friends:  Bessie Sue, Sarah, and John, who have also been key in helping us spread our wings to Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida!  We're so glad we could help your horses, too!!

We have so much to be thankful for, and count every day as a gift.  How lucky we are to be able to be a part of this special program!
