Boarding

A Pinch of Luck offers several different options in boarding to its horse owners.  We don't have a special affiliation with any one style of riding or horse (other than our Thoroughbreds!!) and welcome horses and riders of all types and disciplines.  We welcome outside trainers for a small ring fee and are proud to offer the services of Kimberly Whitehead as our in-house trainer.

Our oversized stalls (most are 12x14 or larger, many 12x16) are open and well-ventilated.  The barns offer wide center aisles, hot and cold water wash racks, and tack rooms with generous space.  Horses are turned out daily from 7:30am until 2:00pm in the winter months, and grass permitting, from 3:30pm until 7:00am in the summer.  Our pastures are large, and are segregated into several groups:  Mares, Geldings, and the "Bang and Dent" department of older horses and horses with handicaps who are turned out together as a mixed-sex group.

We also offer pasture board in our fifty acre Back Pasture.  Horses are sheltered from the elements by large copses of trees, and are watered by two creeks and a lake.  They are fed in a group setting in the Alley where they come in for grain and hay twice daily.

A Pinch of Luck has a large, lighted riding arena with jumps.  In addition to its equine and wildlife residents, our back pasture is also home to a small collection of cross country elements and hacking trail with a creek crossing.  Boarders are welcome to ride in the up-close pastures, as well, and many use their hills for conditioning work and out of the ring schooling.

Pasture Board

Includes feed twice daily.  Horses are also hayed daily as pasture condition warrants.  Horse owners are welcome to full use of the farm's amenities, all riding locations, tack rooms, and wash racks.

Owners coming out to ride in the late mornings or early evenings may request that their horses be kept in the Alley after meals so that they don't have to trek through the pasture on a horse search.  Water is provided in the Alley at all times, so horses may be kept in for any period of time.  Should a pasture horse be injured or get sick and need to be "kept up," the Alley offers our pasture residents a comfortable and familiar setting to convalesce in, and keeps them close at hand for easy, customized care.

"Special" Pasture Board

Includes all of the above, but allows owners with "special needs" horses to keep them in our pasture board setting.  These horses may need special feed or hay (owner provided), need to be kept apart from other pasture horses during meals, or may need medical attention on a daily basis that can be provided by the farm during meal times.  Rates for this option are determined on a per-horse basis with limited space available.

Tier 1 Stall Board

Owners of Tier 1 horses provide feed and hay for their horses through an account set up with Cherokee Feed and Seed.  Our delivery from Cherokee comes twice a month, on the first and the fifteenth, and orders for individual horses are placed by the barn prior to each delivery.  Cherokee delivers and stacks both feed and hay, leaving owners with nothing to worry about other than enjoying their horses.  This option is great for horses requiring special feed or hay, or more than what is provided through our Tier 3 level of care.

Meals and hay are given by farm staff, and board is still full care.  Stalls are cleaned daily, horses turned out according to season.  Water buckets are scrubbed weekly and dumped as necessary during the week.  As with pasture horses, all ammenities are open to our Tier 1 (and 2 and 3) boarders.

We provide blanketing, putting on/removing fly masks and fly protection in the summer time, application of fly spray, and doling out of owner-provided supplements as part of our boarding rate.  Also included is holding for the farm vet and farm farriers.   Owners wishing to use professionals other than those who are considerd "barn" professionals may do so as they wish--we do ask for twenty-four hour advance notice if staff needs to hold a horse for a professional not scheduled by the barn.

Tier 2 Stall Board

Tier 2 stall board provides the same amenities and care as Tier 1, but requires only that owners provide feed or hay.  This option works best for horses on special diets or those that require more or a different kind of hay than that provided by the farm.  Either one scoop of twice daily sweet or pelleted feed or daily hay is provided by the farm, the other to be provided by the owner.  As with Tier 1 horses, an account is opened under the owner's name, and feed or hay is ordered according to need.

All care and amenities as outlined in Tier 1 Board are provided to our Tier 2 Boarders as well.

Tier 3 Stall Board

Tier 3 stall board is for horses who are free of any special dietary needs.  The farm provides these horses with hay and up to one scoop twice daily of sweet or pelleted feed.

All care and amenities as outlined in Tier 1 Board are provided to our Tier 3 Boarders as well.
