Darna Dab
16.2 Hand Dark Bay Gelding
Foal of 2006
December 6, 2011
Darna has now had a few rides since joining us in November, and is a model citizen under saddle. He's kind and willing, and game for whatever he's presented with. He seems to enjoy going over the cross rails, cavaletti, and little verticals that he's been asked to jump, and willingly takes both right and left leads.
We've figured out the secret to grooming success with Darna--he has large hair whorls on each side of his belly and as long as he is groomed carefully over these areas, he enjoys the attention of grooming very much. Fortunately, even if we forget and brush a little too hard for his taste, he's polite in letting us know, and doesn't offer to really kick, more, he just picks up a leg to remind us to lighten up.
Darna seems to be the kind of horse who will be suitable for riders of multiple levels--he's athletic and attractive enough to appeal to riders seeking a competition horse, but kind and quiet enough that a young rider or amateur looking for a project will find him to be a safe and uncomplicated challenge.

Darna is here! He's polite and quiet, and is very understated in his presence. He quietly takes everything in and seems to be quite an observer. When he arrived, he checked out his stall, took a long drink of water (he is a great water drinker, and drank two buckets to his traveling companions' one the whole ride down from Fingerlakes), and immediately started eating hay like he'd been here all his life.
Darna is very much the gentleman, and is easy to work around and handle. He's not a huge fan of grooming, but tolerates soft brushes and sponging, and even when he doesn't approve, he's polite about requesting that the brushing stop. He's great about his feet and legs, and will get his first pair of non-racing shoes this week.
Stay tuned for new information about Darna--in the mean time, he's settling in well and seems ready for anything!

Darna Dab is a gelding whose looks are far more impressive than his rather peculiar name. He has a beautiful neck, a very pretty face, and most important, a nicely put together body to make him a very attractive package. He is a floaty mover with a lovely trot as an even bigger bonus.
Darna went on a two year vacation from racing in 2009 after several less than inspiring finishes that followed his one and only win. He changed hands during his break and was brought back to the track this season. He had a few more less than stellar performances, and this time has retired for real.
Darna will be heading south to Georgia early this week, and should arrive at the farm by Wednesday, weather permitting. Stay tuned for updates and pictures of this very attractive gelding!
