La, la, la, la... Life Goes On...
February 26, 2011

Well tomorrow marks a week since our "friend" made the nasty post on Craigslist, and it's amazing to me how something like that can really become an accidental "social networking" opportunity.  I have heard from more of my "kids' parents," gotten more phone calls, and more emails since then than I did during the whole month of January.  It's been great to catch up with friends, and from an emotional standpoint, so inspiring and uplifiting to know how many lives, both horse and human, that I've touched by creating A Pinch of Luck.

The boys (Bob, Sidewinder, Bully, and Song) have worked well but infrequently this winter.  All are progressing fantastically in their training, and all are now working over small cross rails and cavaletti.  Bob is still the favorite of those who ride him--he's a such a steady-eddie that he makes the retraining process seem like a piece of cake.  Bully reminds us every day how much he'd like a person of his own--he's finally come out of his shell and has decided that throwing his blankets on the ground is a great way to win friends and influence people--we think he's as cute as can be, and will be just wonderful no matter what he ends up doing.  Sidewinder is still our class clown, and though recovering along with Bully from a cold that we've been battling, still manages to make us laugh with his antics.  He loves to work and is game for anything.  And last, but not least, Song is really growing up and filling out.  He's working two to three times a week, and has matured so much just in the short time he's been here.  He's the love bug of the group--everyone who meets him is so taken with his sweet face and heart shaped star.

Not to be forgotten are Princess and Holden, and Treasure (who will be posted soon).  Princess is now schooling two and three jump lines and did her first mini-course of 18" to 2' fences last week.  She loves to work and is up for any task she's asked to carry out.  She may be little, but no one's told her!  Holden continues to perplex us.  He is living outside and thriving, but continues to be "not quite right."  He very much needs a home where he'll be asked to do nothing more than provide love and affection to his people.  He is the kindest, sweetest, most appreciative horse we have.  He truly has a heart of gold.

Treasure, who has been with us since last summer, will be a new face on the site along with a mare soon to arrive from Pennsylvania (check out Wicked Queen's photo from the post parade at Saratoga in 2008 here:  http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-18342958/stock-photo-saratoga-springs-september-wicked-queen-with-eibar-coa-aboard-in-the-post-parade-for-the.html).  We may have a pretty grey filly coming down along with Queenie as well, we're just waiting on the final word from her connections about whether or not they're ready to retire this four year old beauty who suffers from a pretty severe "case of the slows."

You'll note if you visit the Home Page that I've added links to A Pinch of Luck's Facebook and Twitter pages.  I figure if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!  Parents, please share updates on your kids here as well as with me personally through email; site newbies and regulars, we of course want to hear from you, too--you don't have to be a horse-parent to be a part of our family!!!

Spring seems to finally be "just around the corner."  None of us at the farm are delusional enough to think we'll escape without a few more cold snaps and hopefully a Blackberry Winter, but it's sure been nice to unplug the heated buckets and see naked (all be it hairy) horses out in the field again--they're really enjoying the opportunity to grind in a healthy dose of dust and mud!  As the weather warms, my phone lines, too will, be heating up with calls from folks looking for horses and trainers looking to find homes.  The spring meets are soon to begin!  If you're looking for something specific, please get in touch!
