Update September 30, 2011

Wheeeee!  Sanibel is going to South Carolina with her new mom Morgan.  They met on Thursday and though not love at first sight, there was an immediate connection and the bond was sealed after a brief foray to the round pen and a trip through the ring on the way back to the barn.

Sanibel will be embarking on a wonderful new adventure.  We can't wait for her updates!

Update September 29, 2011

It's amazing what a little time and groceries can do!  This beautiful filly has already grown an inch and a half since her arrival and is filling in to be a real beauty.  She has a very solid skeletal structure that is now clearly indicative of the large, well made mare that Sanibel will someday become.

We're continuing to allow her body the time it needs to heal from the neglect that she faced before arriving at A Pinch of Luck, and are being rewarded by our sad little duckling very quickly becoming a swan.  She's not yet in work and is merely enjoying the good life with her girl friends out in the field--we want to make sure that her body is fully healthy before adding the stress of riding back into her life.

Both Sanibel and Annie have graduated from four hours of turnout to a full night out on the grass, have transitioned to normal grain rations, and have ceased to pack away the upwards of thirty pounds of hay that they were originally consuming when they arrived.  They are now, for the most part, healthy, normal three year old fillies who are at what should be the beginning of long, full, and useful lives.

We plan on taking conformation shots of Sanibel in the next week or so to allow us to share the rest of her beautiful self with you.  She's still a good bit thinner than we'd like to see, but has come a long, long way from the emaciated little waif that she was when she arrived.

September 6, 2011

Sanibel joined us along with our miracle filly Answered Prayers (Annie) the last weekend in August.  She, too, is very, very thin and is going to need a very special home to bring her back to the beautiful filly that she truly is.

This pretty girl has had a very busy life in her short time on this earth.  She raced a total of five times with barely eight weeks elapsing between her first start and last.  That's a lot to ask for any horse, let alone a two year old who pretty clearly displayed her lack of racing talent--she never finished better than sixth.

Sanibel has a lot to offer her new family--she has nice conformation (which is pretty easy to see with no muscle or fat to hide her flaws) and clean legs.  Though her feet need (and will soon have) a trim, they are strong, dark, and have very good wall.

She's a clean slate for training, and shows a very pleasant demeanor and willingness to comply with anything asked.  We're very slowly adding feed and pasture to her diet of free choice hay.  She's already gaining weight and should be a totally new horse in no time!

We'll post conformation pictures of her as she gains weight--she's still very, very thin, so we're showcasing her pretty face for now!  Please feel free to email for more information and pictures on this sweet girl.
