Spancill Hill
16.2 Hand Bay Mare
Foal of 2006

Spancill has had several sessions under saddle since arriving at the farm in mid-November. She's had the luxury of spending a lot of time just enjoying being a horse, and has developed a close friendship with Emma (Devilishameye). The two of them are thick as thieves, but are now living out with The Community--the mares and geldings, both retired racers and "civilians," who are both transient and permanent residents of the A Pinch of Luck "Top Barn."
Spancill has done well with her lessons, and though eager early in her rides, settles in and gets down to business once she's gotten going--she's been ridden about once every week and a half or so because of the very busy early winter and then the equally hectic holidays. We plan on more regular riding now that life has settled down to a dull roar and expect to have a more settled horse from the get-go once she's being ridden more often than once every week or two!
Spancill is easy in the bridle, enjoys working, and shows tremendous athleticism under saddle. She's a bold, forward mare, and one who should excel in many different directions. Spancill was well behaved for the farrier, was an absolute star for her body clipping session before the holidays, and is easy to handle on the ground. A video of her on the lunge is below--we plan on filming her under saddle in the coming week.

Spancill arrived with the rest of the Fingerlakes crew on Thursday evening. She's settled in well and is very much at home at the farm. She's adjusting well to her new routine, and seems to enjoy both of her neighbors when they're inside.
Spancill has incredible bone, and with her winter woolies, it's even more apparent. She's a lovely, solid mare with tremendous substance and should be built to do anything.
She is easy to work around and groom, already cross ties like a pro, and really relishes attention. She'll get her new shoes on Wednesday, and from there we'll continue the retraining that was started this fall at FLTAP.
Stay tuned! More updates soon!!

Spancill is an impressive mare with great body and lovely bone. She's well made and is beautifully balanced. She has a lovely expression (that is not very well captured in the above picture--new ones coming as soon as she arrives) and is kind and easy going.
Spancill is a great lover of food, and is the first to let everyone in the barn know that it's feeding time (even it it really isn't--to Spancill any time is feeding time). She is quiet and easy under saddle, and has already had a great start to her retraining. She comes to us through the Fingerlakes Adoption Program, and is a very special mare. Her name is derrived from Irish history--it is the name of a huge horse fair/sale that was conducted in Ireland and is also the name of a famous Irish song. Visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spancil_Hill for more information.
She, too, will be arriving sometime mid-week, and we're excited to have her join us in Georgia. Stay tuned for updates, pictures, and video of this very attractive mare.
