15.3 Hand Chestnut Gelding
Foal of 2009

November 12, 2011

This lovely copper colored two year old is a beautiful example of his breed.  He's also quiet and well mannered, easy to work around, and as kind as can be.

Suchke, or Copper, as we've called him, is so, so sweet.  He had one start on the track last summer, and failed to make an impression.  He continued to train until early this fall when he was diagnosed as having a hairline crack in a cannon bone, a fairly common racing injury, and one that often goes undetected.  He was treated with the best of all medicines--rest and time.  Copper is almost done with his small paddock restriction, and will be out with the big boys in the pasture starting next week.  Were he still in training to be a racehorse, he would be cleared to go back into full work starting the 15th (we're glad he's not!).

Just before he shipped up to us, he was chased out of the round pen he was being kept in by an older horse, and he did a number on himself as he tried to clear the six foot panel.  He would have cleared five feet, but six was too tall, and he scraped his hind legs as he went over.  We've just about cleared up his wounds, and he's almost sound again...  We decided to photograph him anyway since he was in a beautiful early fall coat, and hadn't yet started to get his winter woolies.

Stay tuned for updates on this handsome kid.  Word is he trained beautifully, was easy to gallop, and never anything less than a total gentleman at the track.  With his quiet personality, he will no doubt grow into a youth or amateur mount as he matures.
