Turtle is as funny as his name. He enjoyed his "room with a view" on the way down from New York--Hardee had rearranged the bars on his window during his trip south, and Turtle found the new configuration perfect for hanging his nose out of. The image that came to mind was the Dodge commercial that showed a horse with his head hanging out of the trailer, lips flapping, and made the comment, "dogs do this." I think Turtle could have been that horse.
He's an easy horse to have in the barn, and like his name implies, the only time we know he's inside is at feeding time when he pokes his head out of his stall. He really does this, and it's the funniest thing.
Turtle settled right in to life on the farm, and is enjoying being turned out in a small paddock. He came with his racing plates still on, so gets to go out while his traveling companions watch from inside--they all still need shoes!
Turtle is easy to groom and work on, cross ties like a pro, and is friendly and congenial to his neighbors. Stay tuned for updates on him as he begins work in the coming week!

Ok, so really, how did this cute gelding get such a handle as Wee Doch an Doris you ask? Well, if I have my story right, his breeder's father would often say this phrase as he finished his final drink of the evening, and so, when Turtle (more on the nickname in a second) appeared, he was gifted with this rather strange name. Turtle I do know the whole story on: This cute chestnut gelding is very private about his thoughts and spends most of his day on the backside sleeping happily with his rear end to the door... Until Stacy walks in with the feed wheelbarrow. At that point, around goes Turtle to the front of his stall, and out pops his head! He got called Turtle because the only time you'd ever know he's in the barn is at feeding time when he's all ears and at attention for his meal--and he never misses a crumb!!
Turtle is just about the cutest thing (unless you consider his little sister Mckenzie River along with him) with his pretty white blaze, perky ears, and chunky body. He has a chest that would make a body builder swoon and the body behind it to back it up.
Turtle had one win in his two year career, and after finally scoring a trip to the winner's circle earlier this fall, was given one more shot at trying again. To no avail, he finished a well beaten sixth, and that was all she wrote. Stacy called, asked when Athena would be up again, and he's just waiting for her to arrive!
Once he's here, we'll do the usual and take conformation and head shots to share as soon as we can. Stay tuned for updates and under saddle information on this cute kid!
