Pirate is a nine year old Canadian-bred gelding who came to us from our friends at FLTAP.  He raced only twenty seven times in his career and like his buddy Coleslew, he also brought home an average of $1000 per start.  Not bad for a horse who never ran out of the claiming ranks. 

Pirate got his barn name because he lost an eye as a two year old.  He started racing at four, and probably has no memory of life with two eyes.  Despite his missing right eye, he is easy to handle on both sides, and does not seem to be affected by his lack of sight.  He is a total character and reminds us very much of a two year old that we lost to a hock injury a couple years ago--he bobs his head and flaps his lips for treats and "begs" by holding a leg in the air. 

Athena, our shipper, tells us that he is a fantastic mover who floats over the ground.  He'll start work this week, too, weather permitting, so stay tuned!
