Winning Argument

Winning Argument
2003 Dark Bay Mare

Winnie came to us through a "horse trader" in Farmington, New York.  She had been retired from racing for about three months when she came to us in the winter of 2007.  Prior to coming to Georgia, she'd been stalled at the trader's farm and had had little or no turnout since leaving the track.

When she joined us she seemed perfectly sound and we were very excited about having her come down.  Her father is the New York stallion Western Expression, and he's known for siring beautiful moving, hunter type horses.  She didn't let us down... Until...

Her third ride started out as the other two--she was very quiet, easy to handle, and willing.  But she was very, very lame.  Our vet came out and after some terrible stifle flexions, we shot x-rays, and found some pretty serious OCD leisions.  Winnie went to UGA a week later for surgery to remove the bone chips, and a four month recovery followed.

Winnie came back better than we could have dreamed.  She was sound, happy, and ready to work.  We trail rode and worked in the ring through the summer.  We did a poker ride and she started jumping with one of our friends.  We were confident in the success of her surgery, and it was time for her to find a new home.

Update January, 2010:

Winnie is now living part time with her new family in Ocala, and living part time in Kentucky at a breeding farm.  Winnie is a broodmare now, and just had her first foal, a HUGE, beautiful dark brown colt.  We are SO thrilled and can't wait for more pictures of him as he grows!!
